Praça das Flores
In the late nineteenth century it was common to find kiosks in the main squares of Lisbon (tiny commercial spaces for the sale of tobacco, newspapers, lotteries, soft drinks and snacks). The return of this tradition happened recently, thanks to a competition launched by the municipality to rehabilitate and grant the concessions of these spaces. Refreshment kiosks are a project of Catarina Portas (owner of the store A Vida Portuguesa), who recovered these century old kiosks and also the flavours of Lisbon’s soft drinks and syrups. To drink you have lemonade, capilé (refreshment of maidenhair fern syrup), Mazagran (coffee refreshment), redcurrant, horchata (refreshment of watermelon seeds), fragrant milk, iced tea jasmine-based, ginjinha, Beirão liqueur, port wine, bitter almond liqueur and moscatel. To eat you have cod, sardines, olives, jam and cracklings sandwiches, cream puffs, travesseiros de Sintra (egg stuffed pastry) and Portalegre egg candy.
