Torre dos Clérigos

This bell tower decorated in a Baroque style is part of the Church of the Clergy. It was built between 1754 and 1763 following the design of the Italian Nicolau Nasoni at the request of the Brotherhood of the Poor Clerics where he worked for several years without receiving any pay. Classified as a National Monument since 1910, the Clérigos Tower is an icon of the city of Porto. The panoramic view over the city and the Douro river from the top of the tower is well worth the effort of climbing the 240 steps staircase.
